The gentle approach
Good routine Try to follow a regular routine in the lead-up to bed, then put them down at a constant bedtime. Where settling poses a problem, a later bedtime may be introduced on a temporary basis. Once this is well established it is quite easy to bring it forward a few minutes each night, until an acceptable level is achieved.
Calm them down Donât fight, stir, run, chase or play wild games near bedtime. Olympic athletes do not finish the race and then go straight to sleep and we ourselves need to unwind before bed. Bath, talk, tuck up, cuddle and read a soothing story.
