Dear God, thank You for always working for my good. I pray for trust and faith in Your ability to use my past seasons for Your good in my present and future seasons. Amen.

TO THE GIRL WONDERING IF SHE’LL EVER FIND HER PEOPLE

Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up. . . . A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.

–ECCLESIASTES 4:9-10, 12

I drove away from high school on my last day thinking, Well, that was it.

Four years earlier, I had gone to an orientation for eighth graders. I had walked the high school’s halls nervous, excited, and thinking, Surely in a school this big, I will find my people. But there I was, done with high school and feeling the same sense of loneliness.

Most high school seniors spend their last summer before college at home so they can say goodbye to their friends. But I decided to spend my summer working at a camp as a junior counselor. As I drove eight hours to North Carolina, I prayed, Lord, let me find the women who will be my bridesmaids one day. Lord, help me find my people.

And I did! At camp that summer and that year in college, I found amazing friends. Sometimes we think God isn’t listening, but He’s just preparing our blessings.

Young Christian women are often told to pray for their future husbands, and that is a wonderful thing. However, we should also pray for our future bridesmaids—those special friends we’ll want beside us on one of the most important days of our lives.

If you don’t have quality friendships, don’t panic—you are not alone. But be bold enough to pray for Christian friends and trust that God has good people out there for you.

You crave friendship because friendship is good. Friendship is a gift from God. When you hang out with friends who love well, this is called fellowship. God loves fellowship. Actually, God is fellowship. He is the Trinity: Father, Son, and Spirit all hanging out as One. YOU LONG FOR FRIENDS BECAUSE YOU ARE MADE IN GOD’S IMAGE. Celebrate your God-given desire for relationships, and trust that He is listening.

If this season feels lonely, love big and wait on the Lord. Pray for friends, and don’t be afraid to ask people to hang. If you have your people, pray for them and remind yourself you are better with others. Pray for your bridesmaids.
