Airborne early on the morning of Adlertag from Beaumont-le-Roger, Oblt Paul Temme, Gruppe Adjutant of I./JG 2, was part of a fighter sweep providing cover for a scheduled raid by KG 54 on Odiham and Farnborough. The raid was cancelled on account of the weather. Temme’s Bf 109E-1 was nonetheless engaged and shot down by a Hurricane flown by Sgt J.P. Mills of 43 Squadron. It crash-landed at 0710hrs in a wheat field just south of Shoreham airfield and Temme was taken prisoner. Note the camouflaged hangars and control tower in the background.
