"What do you mean 'she's gone'?" Roy pressed.

"Her and Callum disappeared after you and Haddie went to the dancefloor. Tina was in the bathroom," he gasped. "She found out when she came back and got pissed and went looking for them. There's, like, a whole 'nother party on the roof with tons of drugs and stuff, and she knew about it, so we followed her up there, ‘cause I didn't know what she was gonna do to Mel."

"Bobby," Roy snapped.

"Yeah, sorry. So we find Callum with a needle in his arm, but no Mel. Zy slaps him awake, and he says something about Wonka’s boys taking her for a ride. That's when I ran down to get you."

Roy looked from Bobby to Hadassah, concern wrinkling his forehead.

She heard Callum's voice in her head, We run in some of the same circles, you know what I mean. "Call Nathaniel," Hadassah said, standing. She fished the piece of paper with his phone number out of her pocket and handed it to Roy. He tapped on his phone, hand shaking just slightly.

Bobby peered around the corner at her, curiously. "Hey Haddie," he said.

"Bobby," she answered, bending over Roy's shoulder to watch the screen of the phone as it rang. She could feel Bobby's eyes roaming her disheveled figure, looking for an answer.

The phone clicked, and Nathaniel's voice came through, "Hey, this is Nate, I can't-" he said before Hadassah interrupted him.

"Nathaniel, Mel is missing. We need your help. Can you com-"

"Haddie," Roy said.

She looked at him, angry that he'd butted in.

"It's a voicemail. It's not him."

She heard the silence on the phone. Embarrassment burned her cheeks. "Nathaniel, please call us back," she said.

Roy pressed the red button and put the phone down. "Shit," he said, his eyes glancing guiltily towards her.

"So..." Bobby started to say, but trailed off, not knowing how to ask her why her hair looked like a bird’s nest and a trail of dried blood ran down her nose. Thankfully, the phone rang.

“Nathaniel,” Hadassah said, pushing the green answer button.

“Hey Haddie, what’s up?” he said, sounding dazed.

“We need your help. Mel has gone missing, and Callum said she went for a ride with Wonka’s boys. Do you know who-”

She didn’t get a chance to finish before Nathaniel said, “Don’t go anywhere. I’ll be right there,” and hung up.

Roy took Bobby back inside to gather the rest of them, leaving Hadassah to fix her hair and wipe the smudged makeup and blood from her face. She still reeked of gin, and her head was pounding, but at least she wouldn’t draw any more questions from the group. An ink-blue car pulled up to the entrance to the building. Nathaniel stepped out of the passenger side. Hadassah called to him and jogged to catch him before he went into the club.

“Get in,” he said, opening the door to the back.

“Wait. Where are you going?” called Roy’s voice from behind them.

“To get your sister,” Nathaniel said.

Hadassah stood at the door looking back at Roy.
