10.

I open my eyes and the four guys are standing around the bed. Part of me wishes I somehow moved into the past. Because they’re in the same position as the night before when the wildness started. I quickly envision it all happening. The way Layre pulled me to my feet. The way Darick undressed me. Layre and Seth at my sides. Seth turning me and stripping me some more. Moving to one knee…

“It’s time, sweet angel,” Seth says.

I kick the covers off my body and remember that I’m naked.

They all groan and show their teeth.

“I know, I know,” I say as I sit up. “I’m naked and you’re horny.”

Darick makes a quick move and I feel the tips of his fingers graze my inner thigh.

I gasp and grip the sheets, my butt and legs flexing super tight.

With one curl, he pulls his fingers away and brings them to his mouth.

He makes a pop sound with his fingers and mouth and grins. “Seems like you’re the same, babe.”

I swallow hard.

“We have to go,” Layre says. “They’re waiting.”

Darick curls his lip and pushes from the bed.

Kyran gathers my clothes from the floor and gently folds them and places them on the bed for me.

I love how they are so rough and so gentle at the same time.

I get dressed and walk to the door. I have to show no fear. My ignorance is my best asset right now because there’s not much I understand. If my blood is what all of this stuff revolves around, then fine. I have the blood. They want it. Try and get it. Because if it’s the same as with the guys, I can be bitten, but my blood can’t be taken.

So, I have the power.

And the guys have their bond.

I’m not sure what that bond really means, but whatever.

I grab the door and look back. “Are we going or what?”

They just stand there, staring.

I hurry to check myself and make sure I didn’t forget a piece of clothing. Knowing my luck, I’d show up to these elders missing my pants and panties. Showing off some serious skin, all the while worrying about my blood.

But I’m completely dressed.

I’m ready to go.

“Come on,” I say. “Let’s get this over with.”

Nobody moves.

I let the door go and turn to face them. I fold my arms.

“What? What do I need to know about this?”

Seth moves toward me and has me take his hand. “Sweet angel, these are the highest powers of our kind.”

“If we were rotting in hell, babe,” Darick says, “these guys are the Devil.”

“If we were relaxing upstairs,” Layre says, “these guys are God.”

I swallow hard. “I get that. They want my blood, right? I have power over them.”

“We aren’t sure what they want exactly,” Seth says.

“You told me about the blood and the hunters,” I say, looking at Darick. “That’s what this is about, right?”

“Of course, babe,” Darick says. “But it goes deeper. There are thousands of years of existence on the line here.”

“Plus others,” Kyran says.
