Chapter 21

Athena (Bellany)

Tonight was turning out to be informative. I had learned that Sebastian was mourning the loss of the finer things in life. Jeb had a desire to break free from the prison he called home. And Noah couldn’t afford a new pair of shoes.

They all desperately wanted to win Camp Sunshine and Shandy’s money. They saw this prize as a solution to all of their problems, and I suspected that they would do almost anything to win it.

The door to Sebastian and Noah’s room suddenly swung open. Eva and her sidekick Chantel waltzed in. They were carrying a grocery sack in one hand and an open can of beer in the other.

Did Sebastian invite them? I told him this was just for us.

Jeb looked inside one of the sacks. “You shouldn’t bring that in here,” he said, backing away. “They brought beer.”

Eva took a drink of her beer.

Sebastian didn’t get up from his chair. He leaned back, crossing his arms over his chest. “What are you doing?”

“I thought we could have some fun,” Eva replied.

Chantel grabbed a beer from her sack and offered it to me. I didn’t take it.

She offered it to Jane next, and I wedged myself between them. “She doesn’t want one either.”

Eva held up a beer. “Who wants one?”

Nobody answered.

“Sebastian,” Eva said, setting a beer down in front of him. “Both our teams made it to the next challenge. We should celebrate.”

He got up and set the beer back inside the bag. “I already told you not to bring this stuff over here tonight.”

“One beer won’t hurt you,” Chantel scoffed. She took a drink of her beer, and as soon as she pulled the can away from her mouth, I snatched it out of her hand. Some of it slopped onto the floor.

“What are you doing?” Chantel gasped, trying to snatch it back from me. Eva came toward me too.

I spun around and took a sip, confirming what I suspected. There wasn’t any beer in this can. It was full of water. “Back away!” I warned them. Then I handed the can to Sebastian. “Drink this. It’s not what you think. Your girlfriend’s lying to us.”

Sebastian smelled it first. Then he took a drink.

“What is it?” Noah asked.

Sebastian picked up the bag full of beer and handed it back to Eva. “You need to leave.”

I opened the door. “Goodbye,” I said with a smile.

Eva didn’t move. She started throwing a fit, claiming that she was only drinking water because she already had two beers.

The grin on my face continued to widen. Eva was making an absolute fool of herself. She had been caught in a lie and there was no way she could get out of it. What an amature.

Sebastian and Eva started arguing, but not about beer. They were arguing about their relationship.

“How could I ever trust you again?” Sebastian said.

“Maybe I’m the one who shouldn’t trust you,” Eva fired back. Then she gestured to me.

My eyebrows shot up. This should be good. I couldn’t wait to hear what she was going to say about me.
