Knox stared at his guest from across the table. How could anyone not think she was beautiful? He had questions he wanted to ask, things he wanted to say, but considering the nature of their “relationship” he forced himself to remain quiet.

“It’s still snowing,” she murmured.

He followed her gaze and took in the thick wall of blowing snow outside. “Not supposed to stop until tomorrow evening. Are you okay with staying here with me and the generator, or do you want me to try to get you to the resort?” Her gaze met his, and he saw the wheels turning behind her eyes.

“Um… I don’t mind the candles and generator if you— That is… I don’t have to be there until Thursday, but I’m not sure if—”

“I want you to stay,” he heard himself say. Morgan had proven herself to be as sweet and sexy and normal as any woman would be post divorce from an ass of a cheating husband, unlike his previous experience in which he’d woken up the morning after handcuffed to the bed by his “biggest fan” like some sick and twisted Stephen King character.

“I don’t want to intrude.”

“I want you to stay,” he repeated. “If you want to, that is.”

“I’d like that,” she said with a shy smile.

He placed his elbows on the table and leaned his chin against his fists. “I can’t give you the facial you complained to God about missing, but I think I might be able to manage a decent massage.”

Morgan’s eyes sparkled even as her face flushed with her embarrassment.

“Gah, I was having a moment. I hope you don’t think too badly of me for that rant. Trust me, it came at the end of a really bad day.”

“I gathered that.”

“Still, the massage sounds wonderful,” she said. “I’ll take you up on that, and I might even return the favor.”

“I look forward to it. But first— want to help me put up a tree?”

“A Christmas tree?”

“I haven’t taken the time, but with my family coming in to visit…. You interested?” He liked her. A lot. But he wanted her to know he liked her for more than just the fabulous sex they’d shared. She was smart. Funny. Beautiful. And when she left here, he wanted her to leave with the awareness and memories of how something bad had turned into something amazing. Something he wanted her to remember—like making love under the tree when it was completed.

“I’d love that.”

“Finish up. I’ll go get you some warmer clothes.” He stood and moved to where she sat, bending low for a kiss. He kept waiting for the novelty to wear off, but so far it hadn’t. Every time he kissed her, it kept getting better. He drew away, letting her see his desire for her. “Christmas tree,” he murmured. “Otherwise I’ll keep you in bed all day.”

He forced himself to step away and walked to the mudroom closet to search out a snowsuit for her, something else he kept on hand for when his family visited so they wouldn’t have to pack so much through the airports.
