After I get home from group therapy which admittedly was needed today, Noah and I are going to give our parents a call again since neither his or mine answered this morning. Until then, Noah desperately wants me to call Detective Carner but if I do, not much will get done quickly. Yes, Tiffany is one of the most relevant and prolific killers with an open investigation in America at the moment. However, telling Detective Carner about the new messages would not only prompt her to plant a police escort outside of my house, but in turn, a hindrance in my own investigation. And drawing attention to Tiffany is not what I want right now.

Between receiving the text messages, solving Cameron’s case and my last visit at the cemetery, I admit that I actually looked forward to attending a therapy session for the first time today. Although I opted to stay silent when it hit my turn to share in the group since I shared last week, hearing everyone else talk about what’s going on in their lives distracted me from my own thoughts.

At least it did for the time being. I am trying to leave the room before Emma catches me at the door, but I am too late.

“You want to get lunch or do you have to work on a secret case you can’t tell me about?” She crosses her arms, smiling.

It really isn’t fair to Emma if I keep avoiding her. We’ve only had lunch twice outside of therapy which turned out great and it’d be nice to go out again. Just not right now when Tiffany has proven she’s nearby and watching me. There is no way my second new friend is going to end up dead because of me. “I can’t today but follow me to my truck.”

We head out of the building to the parking lot. My eyes scan our surroundings cautiously.

“Why do you look so paranoid?” Emma whispers.

When we get in my truck, I lock the doors and look in the backseat.

All clear.

In the passenger seat, Emma turns around to follow my gaze behind us. “You alright?” She scrunches her forehead.

“I’m fine. Well, kind of. I can’t be seen out in public with you right now.” I turn around to face the steering wheel, keeping my eyesight on the parking lot. There are only six cars here and all of them belong to the members in our grief group. Since it’s the weekend, the three other businesses who share this plaza with the therapy group are closed. Two members are getting in a truck together. Another member is already backing his SUV out of a parking spot. The last two people from our group are getting ready to back their cars out too. Besides Emma’s blue car, the last vehicle parked in the lot belongs to Dr. Bennett, who is walking out of the building now.

“What’s going on with you?” Emma asks, concern written over her face. “Just tell me. You know I won’t take offense to anything.
