ELLIOTT

Nothing about this party was going the way that Elliott had imagined. Somehow, he had let himself get tricked into a crazy shifter orgy where more than one guest seemed to want to jump his bones.

Not only that, the biggest danger of all seemed to be his own boss, who had him trapped in some wild scheme “pretending” to be his lover.

Problem was, it felt all too real for Elliott.

With every touch, every glance, and every whisper in his ear, Elliott had started to wish that it would all, in fact, be real. That it wasn’t just a pretense.

Elliott was sure that the man was his mate—he had already known it when he’d first met him—but besides that, he had actually slowly started to fall in love with him too. With his boss.

And he didn’t know what to think of that.

So, when Mr. Reynolds held him in place against the balcony’s railing and began unbuttoning his pants, Elliott couldn't take it anymore.

His heart beat overtime in his chest and the panic overwhelmed him.

Before he even realized what he was doing, he shifted right there and then on the balcony of the manor and dashed down the stairs into the yard, like any good rabbit shifter confronted with a predator would.

He rushed across the yard and straight into the manor’s vast garden. The dark, intentionally overgrown garden was the perfect place for a rabbit to hide.

When he couldn't smell the party full of predators any longer, he shimmied under a hollow log and crouched down low in the dark crevice.

What the hell was he doing?

Why had he agreed to this whole thing in the first place?

And what was he going to do next?

Pulling this stunt, he had certainly lost his job by now… There was no way that Mr. Reynolds would take him back after this.

And that thought broke his heart even more.

While he certainly felt the mating connection between them—and he was sure Felix could feel it too—was there truly any hope for them?

The man was not only his boss—he was a rich, handsome billionaire, and completely out of Elliott’s league. Elliott had heard of matings not being fulfilled for less.

His heart sank more and more at the thought. Starting to think he was a hopeless case, Elliott simply laid down in silence in the crevice. Light footsteps soon approached his hiding spot and the predatory scent of a wolf wafted through the air.

Elliott’s nose twitched with the alarming smell and his whole body stiffened in fear of discovery. But, as suddenly as the footsteps had arrived, they were gone, and the garden became eerily quiet.

Too quiet.

Elliott’s heart pounded in his ears, but curiosity got the better of him. Poking his head out from the log against his better judgment, he let out a surprised yelp when a clawed paw suddenly came down on his throat, and sharp teeth pulled him out of his hiding spot.

Immediately, Elliott shifted back into his human form, but so did his captor.

He didn’t
