Chapter Seven

“If you deign to touch her again, I will kill you,” Lucien promised.

While staring into her eyes, he witnessed a first-hand account of her bargain with Cain. There were events in play he would ensure never happened. Constance had sold her soul to become an eligible maiden by giving her sister to his brother.

“She’s my maidservant,” Constance hissed.

“She’s your blood. You are a snake.” Lucien squeezed her neck.

“I deserve compensation for you taking her. This was my way to ensure it.”

Lucien dropped his hand in shock at her audacity. He’d never met a human with as much pure darkness in their soul before. Though Constance was damned, he wouldn’t hesitate to send her to hell instantly.

Lucien snapped his fingers, and one of the servants appeared immediately as though summoned from mid-air.

“Get this bitch fifty shillings.”

The servant left wordlessly.

Constance snorted. “Only fifty? She’s worth one hundred at least.”

“How about your weight in gold?” he offered.

“Her weight in gold. She’s heavy like a sow.”

Lucien gritted his teeth in order not to strike Constance. The skin on his knuckles turned white as he clenched his fists. She was the reason Sadie had gone through immense pain and suffering already.

She had endured 18 years being someone else’s shadow. He couldn't give her the light she deserved. But he’d be damned if he sent her back to a home where she was deemed less than an angel.

Her weight in gold was a small price to pay.

“Sadie’s weight in gold, then. You deserve it,” he ground out.

It took multiple servants to take the money from his vault. They placed the coins in a chest and carried it to a hired carriage.

He would ensure with each coin spent, Constance paid in blood. She would lose her youth and beauty and eventually die penniless and alone. He poisoned her womb so she would never give birth to any offspring.
