Chapter 11
At this point Elaina was ready to spill everything she knew in the hopes he would tell her his secret. She looked at the mark on her wrist that had finally stopped burning. Taking a deep breath, she licked her lips and thought about what to say.
âWhat do you mean you think I know?â His tone was demanding.
âI know what you are.â Nothing like blurting it right out. No sense in fucking around. She was now mated to a dark fae and god only knew what kind of hellish nightmare this was going to bring down on all of their heads.
âCare to explain?â
Really? He was going to insist on playing this game? âFine. I saw your little party last night. While I have no idea what you were doing, I have it on good authority that Micah bought Renna, the dark fae princess, from some family member who had started a coup by killing the king. The two of them sired you and your brothers.â
He worked his jaw, and his pupils filled his eyes until they were solid black. His anger coiled in the room ready to strike and it sent a shiver of fear down her spine. If he was indeed dark fae, he could kill her with little thought.
âYou say Micah bought Renna? Not that he kidnapped her? And get that thought out of your head right the fuck now. I cannot kill my mate,â he growled.
âYes. Her family sold her out. It is my understanding that while that brother is no longer alive, a family member still sits on the throne.â She waited for what seemed like an eternity before he finally spoke.
âI was a teen when Micah died, and it was on his deathbed that he revealed who my real parents were. There was no reason given as to why he sired us.â He laughed. âHis ego, I suppose. It must have been quite the boost to have a dark fae princess in his possession. Though, we were under the impression that he kidnapped her. But either way, he locked my mother up and raped her until she bore him three sons.â
His anger left a bitter taste at the back of her throat, and Elaina blanched. While the dark fae were no friends of hers, the princess didnât deserve the torture handed her. âI am sorry about your mother. Did you ever meet her?â
âYes. Once we knew of her, we went to where he had her locked up. She was a beautiful, broken woman.â He stared into the now empty glass he held between his palms. âWe would have freed her, but she refused to leave, saying they had sealed her fate and it would only endanger us.â The glass shattered in his grip as his lip curled into a snarl. âShe took her own life soon after. Unable to stand the emptiness Micah and her own brother had left inside her.â
âI am so sorry. No one deserves that kind of life.â Her heart hurt for him and she had no idea what to do.
