BONUS â 10 SURPRISING MYTHS ABOUT PREGNANCY
THERE ARE SOME SURPRISING myths out there about pregnancy. The fact is, this is an exciting time, but it can be filled with misinformation. Here are 10 surprising myths about the process:
Pregnant women are âeating for two.â This is technically true, but it can be taken the wrong way. Eating for two means paying special attention to your diet and eating the right things. It does not mean eating more food; it means making good food choices.
Stress is bad for the baby. Stress is a natural part of life, and avoiding it is not possible...especially for nine months. Studies have shown that a moderate level of stress can accelerate fetal development.
Pregnant women should stay away from sweets. The exception here is chocolate. Studies have shown that pregnant women who eat chocolate throughout their pregnancies lower their risk of preeclampsia by 40 percent.
I can have the ideal pregnancy if I follow A, B or C pregnancy plan. There is no perfect plan because every woman and every pregnancy is unique. Do your research, but find whatâs best for you and your situation.
Pregnancy has one goalâthe baby. The reality is that pregnancy contains a long list of individual milestones that will add to your overall experience. Enjoy your first, second and third trimesters as you move closer to the babyâs arrival.
Pregnant women should not exercise. Exercising during pregnancy can be highly advantageous. What you should not do is overexert yourself. Maintaining a good diet combined with exercise are two of the best things you can do for yourself and your baby.
Focusing on potential issues can help my pregnancy. It is great to be cautious and do the right things, but donât focus so much on potential problems that you donât enjoy it! As long as you're following doctorâs orders, eating right, exercising and resting, you can focus on having a great time during your pregnancy.
My fetus is tucked safely away from the world. Your fetus is tucked away but it is experiencing daily life as you move through it. Later in your pregnancy, your baby can hear sounds, see bright lights and recognize your voice.
Pregnant women shouldnât eat fish. Fish are high in omega 3-fatty acids and low in mercury. Studies have shown that women who eat 12 ounces of fish a week have babies with higher IQs.
My fetus is just tissue and cells combining. The reality is that your fetus is hard at work. In fact, it is doing so much changing that it needs highly nutritious food and healthy habits from you to develop properly. Follow the guide to what your fetus is doing throughout its 40 weeks of gestation and youâll understand how hard-at-work your fetus really is.
