So how do you build an audience? You build it slowly, methodically and with purpose. Don’t expect overnight results. It takes time. But, if you follow this basic methodology, you will see positive audience growth over time:
Start with an introduction
If you were already publishing content to all of your digital channels, carry on. We’ll get back to that in a minute. If you were not, post your first bits of content to the channels you know you will use the most (or use first). These first bits of content should serve as an introduction and should include the following information: who you are, what you do and the kind of information you will post to that channel.
Think of it as a declaration of intent:
Welcome to our blog. For the last 25 years we have been leaders in [insert industry here]. [Insert more background here.] Today, we launch into a new digital adventure, and this blog will be a central element of that adventure. During the next few months, [insert what you will be doing with the blog that articulates its value to its audience here.] [Insert invitation to subscribe here.] [Insert invitation to follow you on other channels (Twitter, Instagram, etc.) here (with hyperlinks)]. [Insert friendly thank you here.]
For channels with limitations on the length of the message, keep it as short as necessary. Don’t make your message too stiff or corporate.
