Transition Metals in Health Care

In the health care industry, titanium is used in artificial hips and heart pacemakers. Technetium helps doctors find tumors, and a form of cobalt helps them treat cancer. So does iridium, which helps control tumors. Platinum is used in anticancer drugs. Another transition metal called tantalum is used in surgical appliances. And some thermometers contain mercury. Dentists sometimes use gold to make fillings.
