The great will the mean avoid

The mean from the great will hide

Water turns as sour, saline or sick as the soil it goes through is

And so we become what our friends are—froth or foam, fuzz or

fizz

More esteem is got by the company you keep

Than by the lunge of your words or by your mind’s leap

Wisdom’s not the mind’s find

It is from friendships mined

Thought and deed, clichéd indeed, can work like a pair of twins

Nurtured in pure company, that pair laurels wins

The band of the pure can give us a line of virtuous folk

That no ill can threaten nor ill-deeds ever revoke

Does ‘being good’ one’s wealth raise?

They say it does but it does more—it makes us merit praise

The right kind of mind works to one’s great good

But wrong company can rot that good like wood

The noble-hearted the next life’s happiness will inherit

Because good companions have paved the road to it

Good companions, we know, are a great help in life

But bad company, take it from me, is impossible to survive!
