Chapter 11
We proceeded to go through the opening in the cave front of the mountain, it was very dark and spooky. Talon lit the thick branch to make a torch, so we could all see where we were going.
As the shadow from the torch crept along the wall, there were drawings of animals and people of different tribes dress differently. They had strange figures, some as pets and some large animals of all kinds.
âWho are these people?â I asked.
âSome have died long ago. Some still live here today,â Talon replied.
âLook over there, that looks like the sea serpent you were telling me about early. Unless that is, a very large snake.â
âIt does look a bit like one. Iâm not sure,â Talon said. âTo be realistic, I have never seen one myself.â
I was looking at all the carvings on the rock. âThis looks like a battle of all the tribes with solders. What is that in that picture over there?â I was very interested. âThat is one evil person.â
âHe has fire coming out of him, or is it a she?â Hali said as she pointed to a picture on the wall.
âIt is neither, it is a demon.
âThey talk with a very hollow voice that sounds as if they are talking through a tunnel. They are very dangerous and not to be messed with.â
âThey are handsome in a way, with long black hair very smartly dressed. It looks more a man instead of a woman.â It wore a black long coat, black pants and waistcoat.
âThe sorcerer looks very normal.â Talon looked at me very strangely. âBut this sorcerer is very, very cunning. You would not like to come to entangle with one. They are very dangerous sorcerers and have a lot of tricks,â Talon said.
âLike a witch?â
âYes, something like that.â
It made the hair on the back of Haliâs head stand up and cold shivers go down her spine.
âThese pictures on the wall, are they telling a story of what has happened long ago, Talon?â He stopped to have a look at what I was looking at.
âYes, thatâs right.â
âHow did they manage to carve the pictures out of the rock?â I could not stop asking.
âWith swords, knifes weapons of all kinds.â
âWhat about the colours, where did they get different colours from?â
âWell, when you mix water with different colour stones. They crush the stone into dust. Then you would take different colour dust from the rock and mix the colour together. When you mix the colours together, that is how you get different coloursâ¦â
I looked across to him, with a strange look on my face and said, âI think I got that.â
âI donât think I did really.â
Karnn came over to where we were. âI hear a lot of voices, it sounds as though it is coming from that direction.â Karnn interrupted the history lesson. âThat would be the minersâ probably digging their way for riches.â
Talon could feel the emotion of past history as they were going through the cave. His mind seems to be somewhere else.
