The Story, the Author, the Translator

Translator’s Note

‘Humi Janun Khawab’ is from the collection of children’s short stories named Khencha Mencha, which, roughly translated into English, would mean goodies and sweets that one brings for children. So Khencha Mencha has a lot of endearment in itself. Why I chose this particular story out of the collection (and many other collections of stories that I went through) is because it touches upon a topic very dear to me – how women are finding their space in this world. It is apparently a very simple children’s story but it lends itself to many interpretations. That’s what I liked about it. Humi’s story is simple yet poignant.
