Chapter 20

Fire and waTer

He spins her around and looks down at her glowing form, as he feels her change in his arms. He was excited to be able to hold her again. After all these years living apart, he has craved her.

“We agreed never to do this again,” she shouts as her essence sinks into the element’s human body, and she comes into control of it. She pushes him away, and he permits it. “You have your Wind, and I have my Earth. We are satisfied with that.”

“Wind satisfies me just fine.” He smiles down at her. “How is Earth, by the way?”

“You should know, you are always burning him. It is because of your jealousy the world is in chaos right now.” “You know it is not all my fault.” He reaches for her and pulls her into his arms. “Each night, I look unto you, longing to feel your coolness against my fires.”

“I love Earth, not you.” she struggles against him. “His desire not to share me is the right I have given him.” “We belong together!” He shakes her a little in frustration. “We always have, and you denying it has caused the problems in this world.”

“I didn’t know you would become so crazed as to make an element like him!” Jerking away from him once more, she walks up on the beach. “You did it on purpose! So, I would have to make his equal. So we would end up back here again.”

“Damn straight, I did!” He goes after her and jerks her around before she is clear of the water. “I would risk it all for you! I will not ever let any of us have peace if you are not willing to be with me.”

“So, you force this on us.” Her voice no longer sings with the cadence of her element but takes on the human tone of her feminine form. It is still sharp and clear, but influential in a different way. It calls to the man in him, rather than the element in him traveling along his nerve endings and making his fingers itch to touch her. “On them! She gave herself an option with that sacrifice, and I will not tell her she doesn’t have the right to choose.”

“It will destroy us all if she doesn’t choose him, and you know it.” They lapse into silence, each considering the ramifications of such a choice. The fire element could easily destroy everything if he didn’t find a balance.

“Then, so be it.” She finally says, looking at him. “Everything must come to an end at some time. Our elements are already dying out. Only a few are strong enough to even assist any longer.”

“Only because we stopped making new ones. Keeping yourself and Earth from Wind and I does not give us a chance to grow our powers.” “Humans should have the world we created. Our powers were never meant to live inside them. We did that. By doing this. Entering into their bodies for physical pleasures.
