I believe that, very often, the information made available to us through shamanic journeys, empowered dreams, or some kind of encounter in the twilight states of consciousness are not meant for us as individual practitioners alone. Just as nature offers us profound teachings, in the stones and forest, in the rivers and the sea, so too do the spiritual experiences of others offer precious sources of wisdom. Making time and room for accounts of shamanic return or of other experiences of sacred knowing becomes a cocreative path for reimbuing our lives with the holy. We sit, we open our hearts, we speak our experiences, and the holy draws near to us.

In whatever manner sacred knowing comes to us, in my own experience it is almost always a multilevel, multisensory kind of knowing that involves my physical senses, my less-obvious spiritual senses, and the inner stirrings of my heart. When we move through the world and engage with it from this ground of being, everything — objects, places, the ancient past, an awareness of luminous beings, our own ancestors, and sudden flashes of comprehension of both present and future — comes alive.
