NBA LIVE 95

Year 1994

Publisher Electronic Arts

Developer Electronic Arts

THE SUCCESS OF FIFA International Soccer’s isometric viewpoint led EA to decide to implement it for its basketball series too. NBA Live 95, the first game in the NBA Live series, was the first to use a modified version of the FIFA engine, giving players a better view of the court. It also added some new gameplay features that would become standards for the NBA Live series going forwards, including the addition of a speed boost to give your player a little extra zip when he needs it. Although the SNES version played similarly to the Sega Mega Drive / Genesis one, it did have one notable disadvantage: whereas the Mega Drive rosters were based on the 1994–95 rosters, the SNES version used the older 1993–94 rosters instead. ■

FACT

Charles Barkley doesn’t appear in NBA Live 95 for licensing reasons. More recently, he’s refused to allow his likeness to be used in the NBA 2K games, because 2K Sports won’t pay money to retired players from historic squads.
