This age-old Ayurvedic recipe boosts detoxification. In particular, it works wonders if you have been indulging a little too much while on vacation or are battling a post-pizza party belly. The fennel reduces gas and bloating, the cumin helps to balance blood sugar, the coriander acts as a calming agent, and the manjistha is an anti-inflammatory and clears the lymphatic system. Drink this tea daily if you’re struggling regularly with constant gas, bloating, indigestion, acid reflux, or sluggish digestion. If you suffer from any of these symptoms, there’s no need to buy fancy pills or supplements for a rescue detox, just reach for your spice rack and brew up a pot of this tea! Daily use of this tea will not only promote a gentle full body detox but also facilitate fat burning, aid in the digestion of proteins, and balance all three doshas.

4–5 cups (950 ml–1.2 liters) water

½ teaspoon cumin seeds

½ teaspoon coriander seeds

½ teaspoon fennel seeds

½ teaspoon manjistha powder

Serves 4

Put the water in a saucepan and bring to the boil. Add the remaining ingredients, cover, and let boil for 5 minutes. Using a strainer or cheesecloth (muslin), strain the tea and pour into a thermos.

Take small sips of the tea throughout the day or drink 1 cup (250 ml) of the tea before or after meals.
