Your Area of Expertise

How might you discover your expanded services and products? First, get clear on your area of expertise. If it’s not clearly and easily identifiable to you, it certainly won’t be to anyone else.

Here’s an exercise. Imagine you’re walking down the sidewalk in Anytown, USA. As you walk by two people having a conversation, you overhear one say to the other, “Oh, so-and-so [insert your name or business], she’s the go-to expert for .”

How would you fill in the blank? If you can’t, neither can anyone else. And it has to be easy and in normal conversation. For example, no one is going to say, “Oh, Mary, she’s the go-to expert for finding your purpose and getting paid what you’re worth.” They will say, “Oh, Mary, she’s the go-to expert for career coaching.”

How you describe your area of expertise is not a marketing line. It’s real talk—how someone would speak about you. That’s the first step in building your business of multiples.
