O joy of unseen shores!

I bow to you, my loftiestest gentlewoman!

Did I really live there in the house

When I mumbled something about my love,

When I captured moments of joy

For the earnest payment of eternal throes of death,

For human filth, for the whispers of friends,

And for the enmity of sisters and brothers?

Like Childe Harold courageously abandoning his

Homeland, which long ago had become foreign to him,

There I abandoned infinitely little,

And, it seems, I don’t miss much of anything.

Some lone soul, I recall, was sobbing,

When finally I crossed the boundary;

And I must remind You, my love:

It wasn’t You sobbing, but my mother.
