Jesus helps us stand up to our greatest challenges with our most powerful weapon: What he has done for us personally.

Taking a stand against an oppressor isn’t easy. Even if the stand has been long awaited and is justified, it still takes an extra boost of confidence to face down an enemy who has enjoyed the domination of your mind and soul. Yet Jesus loves to set prisoners free and through grace provide captives with everything they need not only to get free but also to remain confidently free. It’s as if the prisoner is enjoying a table set right in the presence of his enemies. No longer does this man who was born blind have to cower under the thumb of religious leaders who choose to marginalize him due to his problem. His physical sight is given, yet maybe because of the disability of his past, he’s now able to see more than most people who take sight for granted. He sees one of the greatest tools of defense against his accusers: his own story. He knows what his life was like before he met Jesus, and he’s able simply to point to himself as evidence of the greatness of the Messiah.
