LAZY RIVER CURRENTS
A natural river has a current. Currents are
caused by the riverâs natural downhill flow.
Lazy rivers can be a fun way to relax at a
water park.

Lazy rivers, however, are on flat ground. They are also
made into a continuous loop. That way people can
ride for as long as they like without getting out. If a
lazy river was built on a hill, people could only ride the
length once. Then they would have to walk back to
the beginning.
Designers of lazy rivers use hydraulics to create
an artificial current. Hydraulics is a type of science
relating to the movement of water. In a lazy river,
a current moves at approximately 2 to 3 feet per
second (0.6â0.9 m/s). Riders on a lazy river must keep
moving in a forward direction even around bends and
under waterfalls.
