Your new movement medicine cabinet full of “rubber pills.”
What Are the Roll Model Therapy Ball Sequences, and How Do You Use Them?
The Roll Model Therapy Ball sequences are carefully crafted deep-tissue self-massage explorations of different regions of your body. Each sequence targets specific muscles, connective tissues, and joints and attempts to induce compression, friction, penetration, motion, circulation, relaxation, and length into muscles and fascia all over your body. The balls are used in novel and unexpected ways to mimic the educated touch of a skilled massage therapist.
These sequences have been road-tested on hundreds of thousands of students worldwide in classes, in private training sessions, and via DVDs and online videos. They by no means exhaust all of the possibilities for any of the body parts listed, but this book gives you a fantastic array of sequences to keep your body happy, humming, and moving better than ever before. As you familiarize yourself with the sequences, begin to incorporate the nine key Roll Model Ball techniques outlined in chapter 6. Intermix those techniques and find moves that soothe you. Refining your knowledge of the bony landmarks and muscles (see chapter 5) will help you continue to raise the bar on your self-care healthcare.
As you begin doing the sequences, be sure to do the Check In and ReCheck suggested at the beginning and end of each sequence. These moves test whether your efforts elicited change. You’ll be amazed at the immediate results you’ll see! (Find more detail on Check Ins and ReChecks here.)
Think of these sequences as your new movement medicine cabinet—a medicine cabinet full of rubber “pills” with only beneficial side effects. Alternate the different-sized balls to find just the right amount of pressure, grip, or penetration depending on where you are rolling and how you are feeling. Take your daily dose for routine maintenance, or increase the time you spend rolling in order to tackle specific aches and pains.
