• Consider aspects of your body you feel you may have inherited from your parents and grandparents. (If you don't know one or both of your biological parents, imagine them. In my experience, the imagination of these people has often turned out to be very close to reality.) Let your answers be a mixture of fact and fantasy. Where did you get your weight, body build, skin tone, hair color, and eye shape? Is your posture linked to a family member?

• Do you fear getting the diseases of those who preceded you? Where do you think your heart and vascular system came from? Who had cancer, diabetes, colon trouble, arthritis, osteoporosis?

• Do you use any medications? If so, are they linked to your family history? To which side and person in your family?

• With whom do you associate some of your talents? Where did your most fascinating attributes come from?

• In what way are you a living piece of history? In other words, imagine how your problems carry not only the genetics but also parts of the unsolved problems of your parents (or imagined parents) and ancestors. How might you fit into your family or cultural history? How are you something new, and at the same time, a story of the past trying to complete itself?

In some way, you are a crucible in which history is trying to transform itself, and your body problems may be at once an anchor to the past and a solution for the future.

If you consider only how your CR genetics are linked with your history, you can begin to imagine a kind of historical theater that looks to me like a picture used by the Mayo Clinic (see figure 13-2). This diagram, however, only traces our localized genetics. It does not address the infinite creative possibilities linked with this map. We will address those possibilities here. To begin with, allow yourself to experiment, to dream into and to rearrange family figures or imagined family figures.
