It was called the British American Canadian Corporation, and its founders read like a who’s who of espionage: General William Donovan, head of the OSS; Sir William Stephenson, head of British Security Coordination (BSC); Sir Charles Hambro, head of Special Operations Executive; John Pepper, MI6 agent and Stephenson’s deputy; and David Ogilvy, BSC officer. Also included was Edward Stettinius, former US secretary of state.

Oddly, none of the founders had any experience in international trade.
