CHAPTER 17

YOUR BODY’S STRUCTURAL EXPRESSION

T

he acupuncture meridians are integrated with every structural component of the body. Your body actually has a structural language that it uses when you’ve subconsciously internalized, denied, or disconnected from your emotions. The specific meridian that has a decreased flow of life force will determine which structural aspect of the body will “speak.”

For three months, I experienced midline back pain, which awakened me every morning at 6 A.M. In addition to running The LifeLine Technique, I received acupuncture, craniosacral treatments, massage, chiropractic adjustments, and applied kinesiology, and I took additional nutritional supplements in order to help my body heal. The symptom would decrease, but it always returned the next morning at 6 A.M.

During a massage on this area of my back, I had a memory of myself as an infant. I was born with bowed legs and was placed in a lower-body cast to correct the structural imbalance. The cast kept my feet, legs, and pelvis immobilized during the first year of my life. As my back was massaged, I realized how many dysfunctional emotional and physical patterns in my body were associated with this early life experience.

Even though I adapted to the cast and built upper-body strength by pulling myself around with my arms, the cast inhibited the development of my natural cross-crawl pattern, planting seeds of imbalance. It was also during the massage that I began to realize the subtle link between the pain in my back and other symptoms and traumas I’d experienced throughout my life. For example, I recalled being in junior high and high school, wondering “how” to walk. It was almost as if walking wasn’t natural for me. I realized that rupturing my left Achilles tendon 15 years later was also related. At the time, I was going through major turmoil in my life, and I was internalizing anger. The anger triggered subconscious memories of the original trauma of being stuck in the cast.

The hours of five to seven in the morning are when the large intestine acupuncture meridian is at its highest function. This is the time I woke up every morning with excruciating pain. Based on applied kinesiology, the area of discomfort in my back correlated with the muscles of the large intestine—the quadratus lumborum and the hamstrings. The back pain I felt can be likened to a ripened fruit, grown from the seeds planted during my infancy in the cast, ready for harvest. After running The LifeLine Technique on the memory of being in a cast, the back pain is now completely healed, and I’ve been pain free ever since.

This experience is a great example of the interconnectedness of the Expression Channel on a structural level. When you find the boulder that’s inhibited the natural flow of your river, it can be removed, allowing the body to do what it does best—heal.

Remember what Dr. Victor Frank says: “What you have is not what you’ve always got.” “What you have” is a symptom, which is the result of
