I like the informal and creative way in which Ross follows his daimon – at least, that’s how I think of it. To me, at least, Ross is a modern-day shaman.

At the time of writing, as I work through the summer to complete this second edition, Ross is busy working to complete his house. We share an urge to keep on going, ignoring the usual attraction of summer activities. Relevant new information has been uncannily coming my way at greater frequency. Ross calls me to tell me of his own recent examples of the universe providing.

Around Christmas, Ross’s oven stopped working. An electrician visited weeks later while Ross was entertaining a couple he knew on his deck. The electrician explained that Ross would do best to replace his oven, recommending a Bosch. When Ross returned to his guests, he told them the diagnosis. They immediately responded that they had a spare new oven a friend had given them after they’d done him a favour. They had no need for it. It was a Bosch! Ross gratefully accepted.

In Ross’s own words, ‘All these things fit logically as an intersection.’ The electrician, as well as his friends, could have come any time in the morning or afternoon. If they had not been there at the same time, he would have been unlikely to mention the oven.

Ross told me that when he was working on his house and feeling weary and ready to stop, he would sometimes experience a physical impulse that energized him and enabled him to work for hours longer. He described this boost as ‘certainly coming from elsewhere’. Ross’s work on his house is not merely a personal project: it seems to be a transpersonal one.

Despite year after year of learning from Ross through our occasional extended lunches, which often turned into whole afternoons, I never thought I would ever experience such profound synchronicity as he described. But after meeting him regularly for 15 years, I was proven wrong.
