While for the most part I see my work with the fairy folk to be an honor, I have learned over time that the Rules of Engagement (see page 6) are necessary not only for the hidden folk but also for myself. Having an active fairy mound in my back woods means I often have visitors of one kind or another whose actions affect not only me but the others who live in and around my home. For years I dealt with missing jewelry (always one earring) and mischief in my home, particularly in the form of my cat being harassed. While these actions were never malicious, they were annoying, and I really hated losing so many pieces of jewelry that I loved. I finally started negotiating my needs; giving the proper offerings seemed to help.
