We are all used to checking the traffic reports before we begin a journey. And we’ve grown accustomed to listening to the weather report before setting out on a long trip. Even though the weatherman may not always be right, most of us have found listening to the predictions of meteorologists valuable.

In a similar manner, Jyotish is an ancient discipline for determining when conditions are favorable to begin any major new activity in your life. Jyotish is traditionally defined as “the science of time determination.”

For those of you who are skeptics, here is an opportunity for you to practice staying open. Who knows? You just might be surprised.

Have you figured out yet that everything in our world is connected with everything else? While analyzing differences can be of value in understanding how the parts fit together, you will find your life and your work most rewarding when you give attention to the connections between people and things in your world, rather than the differences. This includes the connections between the physical world and the activities you intend to undertake.

Have you noticed that Nature moves in cycles? Night and day. Winter, spring, summer, and fall. High tide and low tide. These cycles are a function of the movement of our planet and its movement relative to the moon and the sun. These cycles have a big impact on our experience of life.

Jyotish is the study of these cycles, based on the movements of the earth on its axis, its movement around the sun, and the rotation of our solar system around the center of our galaxy.
