How tightly you hold the club depends on your ball-flight. People who slice tend to hold on too tight; those who hook, too soft. So, to correct a hook, hold on tighter. To correct a slice, hold on softer. What you usually read is that a light hold on the club is best. But that’s good advice only if you slice. It’s not so good if you hook.
I prefer the overlapping grip. People who interlock tend to put the little finger of the right hand all the way in, which puts the right hand in a really bad position—too far underneath the club in a strong position.
