Pinning a hem, eating an apple, getting River ready to go to Nana’s and de-stressing a hyper bride on the phone? All in a day’s work for Supermum. She was like that blue Indian goddess with a million arms. Except not blue. Or Indian. But she was a multitasking goddess nonetheless.

And me? Well, because Toby was joining Team Something Borrowed later, the day had started with a sparkle. What to wear? Hair definitely down – that was a no-brainer. The teal silk dress with the sequinned peacock then. No glitter nails, no snog-stopping red lips and no false eyelashes. (Well, maybe just the one pair.) Had an excited text from Badger and a can’t-wait-to-see-you one from Toby that had me smiling inside and out.

Over the last few days, without either of us saying anything about it, me and Toby had drifted into spending our free time at college together. When I didn’t have a lesson, I’d find him sitting in the canteen, sometimes on his own, mostly with one or two mates or Jozz and Brittany. I’d had a bunch of surprise flowers left on the doorstep and he’d even turned up out of the blue to watch footie training and then driven me and Ayesha home. Dodgy donkey mates aside, the guy could not have been ticking more boxes on the Potential Boyfriend Wish List.

And now he’d volunteered to help at the wedding. And boy, did we need it. This was a BIG DEAL for Something Borrowed. The caterers had sorted out all the waiting staff and the venue had their own in-house team too, but with 150 or so guests there was still loads for us to do.

I was loving the venue: a sculpture gallery which had Dad giddy as a snap-happy kipper. We’d got there first thing to add the finishing touches to the ‘Ironic Chandelier Room’ (actual name). Thousands of reflective crystal drops dangling off a tier of bicycle wheels to create a chandelier that blinged the room like a disco ball and glinted off the centrepieces. It was a nice nod to the cycle-mad couple’s hobby of choice, plus the perfect backdrop for Dad to take some dazzlingly original photos of the dazzlingly gorgeous couple.

Put some people in a wedding environment and they go all Downton Abbey on you. It’s servant do this, servant do that till you’re a gnat’s whisker from telling Lord and Lady Bossyboots where to stick their silver service. But as well as being a lovely couple, Megan and Ben had some seriously lovely friends.

Like Rich the Best Man. He was standing near me during the cocktail hour when I realised the waiting staff had moved some of the place cards. Massive panic. I had to sort two table’s worth literally minutes before everyone was due to sit down.

‘Can I help?’ he said discreetly as I fanned the cards out on a table

‘That would be great,’ I said wholeheartedly. ‘I think we must have duplicated some?’

‘Allow me.’ He consulted my photocopy of the seating plan.
