THE URGE TO DEVELOP AND GROW IS A PATHWAY TO VICTORY

The rune of the sun: Sowelo is the rune of the sun, expressing the life-giving brightness, glory, and good fortune associated with our parent star. The shape of the rune also resembles a flash of lightning, symbolizing personal illumination and, on a literal level, its association with the sun suggests an enjoyable holiday to come. The rune is also said to indicate victory in athletic events and sports. The Anglo-Saxon Rune Poem describes this bright rune as follows: “Sol is the shield of the sky and shining rays and destroyer of ice.”

Sowelo relates to the month of June, or Sun Moon in Norse mythology.

Meaning: The appearance of Sowelo in a reading casts a warm glow through a person’s fate. It is traditionally said that this rune can undo much of the harm of even the most negative rune-reading. It is a rune of hope, promising that even in the blackest of circumstances light will again come, and that bad times do not last forever. Thus, Sowelo is an excellent rune to draw when you are in trouble, because a happy outcome is certain. If there is a major decision to be made, Sowelo will cast a beam of light on the situation, banishing all confusion and making the issues absolutely clear.

This is particularly relevant to legal affairs, as Sowelo is symbolically connected to the virtue of justice. So whenever this rune appears in a reading, you can always be sure that the right action will be taken, the correct decisions made, and a fair judgment given. If you are one of the litigants, then it is extremely likely that this fair verdict will go in your favor.

Sowelo is intimately linked with the workings of the human heart. It is considered a good omen for your love life, adding warmth and affection and banishing coldness and hard attitudes. When considering matters of love, Sowelo predicts a long and happy partnership and, if found together with Wunjo (see page 34), marriage is very likely indeed.

Above all, Sowelo signifies a time of happiness and harmony. True love will flourish, and justice will be done. Its wisdom is found in the principle of fair play and contented partnership.

Sowelo has no inverted meaning, so its message is crystal clear.
