Follow Up

Always follow up after every substantive engagement with a contact! Too many job seekers diminish their networking efforts by failing to take the necessary time to follow up.

The follow-up communication can take a variety of forms. It could be:

1. An email or InMail simply expressing your appreciation or enjoyment of the communication.

2. A call or voicemail.

3. Providing information you indicated you would.

4. Providing something of value to the connection (by email attachment, US Mail, or special delivery).

The above list is certainly not exhaustive. Use your professional judgment in your follow-up communications. Remember, following up after an engagement is critical to the development of the relationship. It differentiates you from others, elevates your status in the mind of the contact, and will advance your job search.
