Remember, these energy currents are actually manifestations of unification of mind and lead to a mental state called meditative joy. There is absolutely nothing in the human body that corresponds anatomically to these energy currents or the channels through which they seem to move.15 This means that despite their intensity, these currents can’t actually harm the body.

Important Reminders about Extraordinary Experiences

All these extraordinary experiences develop spontaneously as a result of continuing to practice. Remember, they serve no particular purpose and are irrelevant to the specific goals of each Stage. However, they can be so unusual and fascinating that you’ll find it hard to resist dwelling on them a bit. It’s important that you don’t disrupt your cultivation of physical pliancy and meditative joy by pursuing or deliberately trying to invoke them. This is especially true early on, when their appearances are brief and unpredictable. Later, when effortless concentration is well established and these phenomena stabilize, they are as suitable as any other object for close investigation.
