The pod door slid open with a faint hiss, its hydraulics releasing me into an alien world.

My bare feet met soft, lush grass as I stumbled out into a wide, verdant clearing.

The dual suns, one pale blue and the other a muted orange, bathed the landscape in an ethereal light.

The peculiar juxtaposition of their colors created a mesmerizing dance of shadows on the ground.

In the past, every time I exited the pod, Jayas would appear almost magically from the foliage.

He’d swoop down with an air of commanding assurance, his tall frame protecting me from any impending danger.

But this time was different.

This time, Jayas was injured, possibly incapacitated.

I had to find him, and fast.

Relying on memory, I traced the paths we had taken in past rounds.

Which direction had he approached from?

North?

East?

The pattern wasn’t always consistent, but my gut told me to head east.

That’s where the densest part of the jungle lay.

The dense underbrush scratched against my legs as I plunged into the thick foliage.

My senses were on high alert, ears straining to catch any unusual sounds — either the comforting voice of Jayas or the menacing growl of the other alien males.

As I ran, a glint of metal caught my eye — a supply drop, descending gracefully on a parachute.

What was it Jayas had told me about them?

That they carried essential tools, weapons, and sometimes food?

And medicine.

But right now, the precious cargo it held was of no consequence.

Finding Jayas was all that mattered.

I quickened my pace, my breathing rhythmic and determined.

I was desperate, but I also felt an unfamiliar surge of power and self-assuredness.

The piercing chirrups of alien birds filled the air, a cacophony that both guided and distracted me.

Then, through a break in the canopy, I spotted it — an empty pod, its sleek design at odds with the surrounding jungle.

Heart pounding, I approached cautiously, scanning the area for any sign of Jayas.

But the pod was deserted, its inhabitant long gone.

A sudden rustle to my left drew my attention.

There, in a beam of sunlight that filtered through the dense leaves, was Jayas.

But the proud, fierce warrior I remembered looked vastly different.

He was sprawled on the ground, his muscles straining with the effort of dragging himself forward, inch by painful inch.

The sight sent a sharp pang of fear through me.

“Jayas!”

My voice was a choked whisper as I rushed to his side, sliding onto my knees.

His eyes, clouded with pain, looked up at mine. “Aurora,” he rasped, his voice weak but filled with unmistakable relief.

I placed a gentle hand on his cheek. “It’s okay, I’m here now. We’re going to get you out of here.”

He smiled faintly, the gesture transforming his face despite his evident pain. “I hoped you’d find me,” he murmured, his gaze locking onto mine with fierce pride.

I swallowed back the tears that threatened to spill. “Of course I did,” I whispered back.

Casting a wary glance around, I realized we were still dangerously exposed.

If any of the alien males found us in this state, we’d be sitting ducks.

I needed to find a safe place to hide and tend to Jayas’s injuries.
