Chapter Fifty-Five

Millie and Mac enjoyed a relatively quiet afternoon. They ate some lunch at the Tiny Wanderer and talked about the case a little, but that didn’t dominate the conversation. Millie wanted to talk about the promotion, but it wasn’t the right time. She did say that she needed to stop at Angela’s. Millie looked at the clock in her car, which read 3:45 p.m. Mac sat in the passenger seat along for the ride.

“Ready for this?” Millie pulled her car into a secluded driveway in St. Charles, Illinois.

“Sure. I haven’t met your sister yet. It will be fun.”

“She isn’t exactly the warmest person to be around. She also doesn’t do hugs or anything, so don’t give your goodbye hug. Or maybe you should try so you can see her face.”

“Ha! I am so going to try. Her husband’s name is Jacob?”

“Yes, but I think he is ice fishing this weekend.”

“That is a popular thing to do around here.”

Millie and Mac exited Millie’s black sedan and walked to the front door of a charming ranch-style home replete with gray siding and white shutters around every window. A very rustic chic look. Millie let her and Mac in. The interior kept the same look with some warmer reclaimed wood tones and wood flooring with some gray and copper décor on the fireplace and walls with many frames with pics of the family.

Millie liked her sister’s house. Her sister she loved but didn’t always like. Their relationship wasn’t exactly close nor was it bad. It just sort of existed. Millie and Angela were two very different people.

“Hey. You must be Mac. I am Angela.” Angela greeted them from the kitchen area, a hard right from the front door.

“Hello, Angela, nice to finally meet you! Really love your house. It’s very nice.” Mac smiled.

“Hey, thanks for doing this. I am sure it won’t take long. Where are the kids?”

“Jacob’s parents took them out for dinner. Good riddance. Mac, you want a beer or anything?” Angela loosened up if only a little.

“No, no, thanks. I am good. Maybe in a bit. What is Angela doing exactly?” Mac looked at Millie while removing his jacket.

“I will let you handle this.” Angela looked at Millie then walked into the kitchen.

“We are here to see if we can recreate the moment Perry died with…”

“With what, Millie?” Mac looked curious.

“Magic and Angela’s talents as an artist. Please don’t freak out.”

“Millie, why would I freak out? I think this whole magic thing is amazing. I try not to ask too many questions about it because you tell me not to and that you will let me know more about it in due time. Today is one of those times! Let’s do it! What do we do? Time travel or something? And now you are saying your sister is magical too? Are you all magical? Is it only you two or are there more?” Mac let out a lot of supressed excitement for Millie’s mad magic skills.

“Helloooo!” Becca walked in the front door followed by Hank.
