Her hand hovered over the card, her eyes lost in thought before she started scribbling on it. The scratching of the pen on the card echoed hauntingly in the room.

A sigh of satisfaction escaped Clara's lips as she glanced at the card. Alice. £10. She carefully placed the card on the grimy window ledge, her trembling hands smoothing out the crumpled paper.

The TV flickered, coming back to a grey buzzing snow, giving the room a sinister hue, the dolls' lifeless eyes reflecting the eerie light, the silence telling tales of a demented love.

Clara sat back in her chair, her gaze fixed on the doll by the window, a whisper of a song playing on her cracked lips. She was the doll maker, and this was her unholy sanctuary.

They would never find her, never discover her secret. She was too clever, too sneaky. Never again would she be held, imprisoned, and punished. Never again.
