His guise is usually masculine; his robes are the diffusion of many colours: pale, delicate glitterings like the hues seen through ice; his music is mighty, like ice-floes breaking up; his perfume can be sensed on the winter wind when ice and snow cover the landscape – sharp, bracing and vigorously pure.

Call on Izla to soothe and gentle the winter blast. Send easing and warmth to him, and he will soften the grip of the wild and extreme weather. He will exult in working with you to bring this about. His deeper purpose is to bring to human attention the principles of ice and fire from which the cosmos creates itself. He tells us that when spirit or the hand of God united the two, a fire-mist was born which formed the worlds.

He works with the Angel of Hoarfrost to bring us gifts from the past, touching unheated windows with a rime and frost that show us the ethereal forms of the very early plant life on our earth – the spirits of nature which propagated the first trees and gave birth to vegetation. We will see in the mystic patterns of the ice the primal fern-fronds that formed the primeval forests. The principles of ice and fire are governed by the angels, but they need human consciousness to find the point of balance between them so that wonders and marvels may come into being and the joy of harmony may be attained. He will help you to integrate extremes and discover that point of ineffably creative balance between polarities. Its location is in the human heart.
