Dala-li
Dala-li was having difficulty finding the human. Ops had been tracking him via satellite imagery but had lost him through the wooded area near a cliff face. Where they failed, she had been certain of success...
But the human had disappeared from view, and she could not locate him anywhere.
She tossed her datapad on the floor in frustration. It was her faultâshe had programmed the construct to engage data cloaking and to refute location miners. She could tell it had been accessing the orbital satellites but had been able to trace the signal back to its origin.
In a way, it was a testament to her own skillâshe had made a construct even she couldn't track.
Regardless, it wasn't that she needed to know where the human was... not exactly. She just wanted to ensure she would be able to see if and when the human faced Treca. The only thing more satisfying than his death would have been for her to see the look on Treca's face when he realized he was about to face the great darkness with no honor.
She recoiled suddenly and looked over at her datapad. She was starting to scare herself with her newfound aggression.
But, as she reconsidered the image screen, another emotion welled up inside herâa powerful emotion she also hadn't really noticed before but was somehow tied to the aggression: it was a desire to live.
She bleated her air sacks in frustration, knowing deep within herself that it was unlikely.
But still...
Her mind began working out the problem. Understandably, it would be difficult, since the few who stood against the Jhikani were killed. Viciously killed and broadcast across the Photon-Image. That put a bit of a damper on the rebel spirit she could have tapped into.
Maybe the human...?
The thought passed in and out of her mind quickly, since it was ludicrousâbut a tendril of the idea remained, and she dwelt on it, tearing into it like a programming problem. Why wouldn't it work? What were the obstacles?
She floated over to her datapad and picked it up. The biggest obstacle was that the human was down in the Arena, an Arena specifically designed with no escape other that victory.
She pulled up a map of the planet, and a pleasure surge flooded her system as hope forced its way into her thoughts. This was a problem, but she could solve problems. The Arena was on a large landmass amid an even larger ocean that covered most of the rest of the planet. During the games the entire planet was a no-fly zone, off limits to any transportation to or from... this dated back several thousand relqia, when a pack of Skif had fought their way to a resupply pad and stole a freighter. They were ultimately shot down, but the no-fly zone was studiously enforced by orbital guns in a geosynchronous orbit over the Arena.
That made it... problematic, at best.
So, what good would the human be? It would be impossible for him to rescue her, so how could she use him?
She stared at the pad, and suddenly the thought came to her.
