Goddess worship is a pretty standard part of witchcraft. Some witches pray to the God and the Goddess, who represent the duality of all things. Many others pray to the Triple Goddess, who represents different things to different people (like past, present, and future or mother, maiden, and crone). Hecate was one of the early triple goddesses, but she’s not the only one. Still, she’s a damn helpful deity to have around.

It’s OK if you don’t believe in the existence of Athena or Hecate as actual beings. You can pray to the idea of them—to the Divine Feminine, for the wisdom and powerful energy—to boost your activism. What you’re doing is asking the Universe for help and using the symbolism of these deities to focus your intention. Nothing wrong with that. If it works, great. If it doesn’t work, try something (or someone) else!
