To reduce the chances of having their professional competency called into question, recruiters frequently will try to find reasons to reject your candidacy. Only after coming up empty will they transition to a more accommodating mindset of how, why, and where you could fit into the organization. Evoking a “last man standing” scenario, Joe Davis, a senior construction and development executive who was once my colleague at an international resort company, captured this sentiment when he said, “Selection is often the process of elimination.”
