people in the Pyramid probably don’t know that they are in a scheme- they’re

genuinely trying to enroll people into this great thing that they’ve found!

Here’s the hitch, though. In a Pyramid, the goods or services are not necessarily

central to the entire operation- the enrollments are. The participants are paid

primarily for enrolling people, not primarily for moving the goods through the

distribution channels- even though there are lots of products sitting around.

As well, Pyramids always aggressively recruit new distributors- because that’s

how people “up the Pyramid” are getting paid. As such, they also offer “now or

never” scenarios. They promise to give new enrollees huge payoffs in the future

(usually sooner than later) in order to lure them in. Remember, the products are

not as important as getting people

to pay you to sign up.

Everyone can find a network

Here’s why you may feel a lot of

usually benefitting. He wants to keep things on the “down low,” because the

more people that hear about the investment opportunity the more he runs a risk

of being exposed. In a Pyramid, people aren’t concerned about exposure- they

want hype, lots of it. They want people to think that everyone is enrolling so that

more people will enroll. They are paid from those enrollments.

When the “shine” dulls (or disappears) the schemes are usually revealed for

what they are- get rich quick opportunities. The products are usually of an

inferior quality. Remember, the Pyramid wasn't about the products anyway. It

was about the “sign ups.” In time, everyone discovers that they were just putting

lipstick on a pig or polishing a poop. The hype dies and people move on.

Now, granted, a distributor in Young Living may pressure you. Or, they may

genuinely be excited about the oils and you may feel like they’re pressuring you-

even if that’s not their intent. At the end of the day, though, once you understand

the commission structure for Young Living, you’ll see that it’s clearly not a

Pyramid.177

When I was in Hawaii, I heard stories over and over of successful distributors

who had changed their upline or stayed dormant for years because someone

above them was pressuring them to perform. Someone above them created a

Pyramid culture, even though Young Living is not a pyramid. Think about that:
