âºIt âs hard to make a hinge joint out of foam, but itâs easy to spot oneâjust look at any door. This is similar to your elbow or knee. You can see how it easily moves open and closed in one directionâbut it cannot continue in a full, 360-degree motion.
Try This!
Can you think of a way to make your foam joints move more smoothly? Our bodies use a fluid to help. What can you use in your models?
Hip, Hip... Hooray?
Our hips take a lot of strain during our lifetime. Those joints move any time we move our legs, even just to sit and stand. Sometimes, they grow very painful, especially for older people, and a hip replacement is necessary. In this surgery, a doctor will remove the old hip joint and replace it with an artificial joint made from metal or plastic components.
