Key Up –

Turning on a repeater by transmitting the repeater’s input frequency.

Kilocycles –

This is a thousand cycles per second. The term was later replaced by

kilohertz “kHz”.

Kilohertz –

One thousand hertz.

L - “Lima”

Ladder Line –

A wire resembling a “ladder”. It has an open wire transmission line.

Typically, 600 and 450 ohm impedances are used.

Landline –

Telephone.

LCD –

Liquid Crystal Display.

LED –

Light-Emitting Diode.

LEO –

These are Low Earth Orbiting Satellites. Satellites used in communication

systems which orbit about 400 to 1000 miles above Earth’s surface. They

are fast moving and are not fixed in space in relation to the Earth.
