6.2. Combined GETMe algorithms

6.2.1. GETMe smoothing

By deriving new node positions as weighted means of transformed element nodes for the entire mesh, the GETMe simultaneous approach focuses on improving the overall mesh quality . In contrast, transforming only low quality elements in the case of GETMe sequential puts an emphasis on improving the lowest element quality number . These individual strengths with respect to quality and runtime behavior can be combined by applying GETMe simultaneous smoothing first, which improves overall mesh quality and with these problematic parts of the mesh containing the element with the lowest quality. Subsequently applying GETMe sequential smoothing can then improve the remaining low quality elements more effectively. The resulting combined approach is denoted as GETMe smoothing and is summarized for completeness in Algorithm 4.
