On the other hand, it is a bit more complicated, though no less inspiring, to discuss the ways in which the National Park Service has influenced society. It has had economic impact, churning billions of dollars through local, state, and national economies. It has had environmental impact, protecting countless species within the parks and spreading the word about climate change. Moreover, it has had cultural impact, lifting up the idea of the public good, shared spaces, and the value of cultural conservation. In these ways and more, the NPS has expanded well beyond the early days of dusty stagecoach rides for the lucky few who could travel to enjoy the parks. Today, the NPS works hard to make sure that the parks are open and accessible to all. In this way, their influence is exponentially greater, and their impact is truly remarkable.
