The Trinity and the Work of Creation

Overview

Of all the mysteries of the Catholic faith, there is one that is the most essential and fundamental: “The mystery of the Most Holy Trinity is the central mystery of Christian faith and life. It is the mystery of God in Himself. It is therefore the source of all the other mysteries of faith, the light that enlightens them. It is the most fundamental and essential teaching in the ‘hierarchy of the truths of faith.’” (CCC 234). As a supernatural mystery of faith, the truth of the Trinity, unlike the truth of the existence of God, is utterly above the power of pure reason to comprehend. The only reason we know about the Trinity is because God communicated this truth to us through divine Revelation; had God not revealed this information to us, then no amount of brilliant thinking could ever have arrived at such knowledge.
